Avatars of War: War priest

No Empire Army is ever complete if it does not include a warrior priest or Arch Lector. I was never that excited by GWs range of priests, so I decided to give Avatars of war "war priest" a go.
The Spanish company appear to produce a number of nice figures. So I went online and ordered this chap. I ended up putting him on a bit of an angle when I added a piece of cord to represent slate under his feet. This makes him lean back a bit which does not help the look of the figure.
When I assembled th chap I though that magic weapons could be combined with normal swords to give me an additional 6+ ward save. This is not true, but explains why I went down the route of taking an arm out of my bits box to replace the warhammer that comes with the kit.

I found that the details were not as crisp as I expected them and I had to complete quite a bit of work on the head to clean him up and to remove mold lines. Having said that, the model does include some very nice details like a wonderful religious book (not shown on the photos clearly) and also a nice shield.

I painted him brown, mainly to make it easier to identify him amongst the remainder of my blue and cream Nordland army.

I hope you enjoy....

Captain on a pegasus: a vision in blue and cream..

The intention is to make a Empire captain on a Pegasus starting from a Bretonnian Hero kit. The difficult bit would be to make it a lot less Bretonnian and a whole lot more Empire. To this end I added quite a few empire bits.
My Empire army is based on a Nordland army so I have a blued and cream colour scheme. I decided to make a point of this by adopting a checker pattern to draw attention to the bright colours.
I spent a long time thinking about what colour to paint the Pegasus, and eventually decided to go with quite a naturalistic style to match the horses within my Empire force. This has the benefit that it focuses attention onto the rider and barding, but it does distract slightly from the wing details..

Hopefully you will enjoy the way it finished...

The hero on board is a basic knight figure who is given a fancy hat because the character build I opted for included a Dragon-helm. If you have any advice of comments please post below...

Empire captain on pegasus; build and progress..

The empire army works well with a captain on a Pegasus (or so I've heard), which means I was presented with the challenge of putting one together. The only Pegasus model available within the empire army figure collection is that of Balthasar Gelt.To a Nordland army the thought of starting with that figure is just unpalatable. Therefore I took the approach of building from a Bretonnian Hero on Pegasus.

The challenge is to make him look less Bretonnian and more Empire..

I started by removing the badges from the skirt. This made a bit of a mess, so I smoothed this back using GWs liquid green. It took took watered down coats.

I also replaced the Bretonnian shields with Flagellant bells and a comet symbols. The shield hanging below was replaced with a hammer of sigmar.

I then tried to work on the front end of the horse.

The horses head is from the empire General kit. I had to file down the lowest barding strip to make it fit, but otherwise nice and easy.

The captain is an empire knight figure with arms taken from the Empire General kit. The lance was chosen because it has a Garland on it which I could say represented a crown of command. The Head was chosen because it has a Dragon on it for the Dragonhelm.

Next time, I throw some paint at the figure...
